赛尔吉·布伦（让·雷诺饰）带领的反黑组追踪不法分子的方式很不一般。在一次银行抢劫案中，布伦根据线索和准确的侦查能力很快锁定了凶手并将其抓获，但最终却因证据不足将其释放。而在劫匪再次犯案中，上司因个人因素执意把他带领的反黑团队隔离出来，不让他们继续追踪抢劫案。上司自行带队缉匪，不料却中了劫匪的调虎离山计。布伦知道匪徒的阴谋后，独自带队行动，与犯人激烈火拼。结果女同事兼情人死亡，其他小组成员也伤亡惨重，将他推入人生谷底。报仇成为布伦唯一活下去的动力。。Volker Schlöndorff transposes Bertolt Brecht’s late-expressionist work to latter-day 1969.
