本剧分为上下两部。 第一部讲述身手不凡又孝顺双亲的花木兰（袁咏仪 饰）代父从军，在战场上英勇杀敌，邂逅大将军李亮（赵文卓 饰）。这段时光虽然艰苦，但却是花木兰表现自我的舞台。只要尽力保卫国家，既得朝廷赞许 ，又得民心拥护。 第二部则讲述离开战场过上家庭生活的花木兰，面对婆媳关系、夫妻关系，则不是她最擅长的部分。虽有丈夫疼爱，但问题还是在不停发生。木兰感到筋疲力尽，提出了分开。李亮大吃一惊，而婆婆则更加落井下石。 战场上骁勇的女英雄也要过寻常老百姓的日子，我们万世传颂的花木兰也要面对人间烟火的琐碎。。A documentary potted history of WW2, the novelty here is that most of the film has been "colorized". The maker does not like to use this word and prefers to say "restored" but to all intents and purposes it is seeing the war in colour that makes it more gory and emotional.
